Congratulations to our Winter 2023 Program Participants!
Interns from the Winter 2023 Internship Program have officially completed our program! We celebrated by inviting interns' families and supervisors to hear Final Presentations from each intern. They did such a fantastic job!!! To our interns ... we are so impressed with all of your accomplishments and thrilled to have walked this journey with you over the past few months. We cannot wait to hear about your future successes!
Thank you so to Fred W. Martin Center for the Arts for their unsolicited donation to BroadFutures! We are so thankful for your support. The Center is an elementary school located in Jersey City, New Jersey serving many neurodivergent students. To celebrate their diverse student population, they hold a yearly fair filled with fun activities for all to enjoy during Autism Acceptance month. The money collected is then donated to an organization that provides for neurodivergent students and their families and this year they decided to support BroadFutures!
Maria Dacanay, the Autistic Classroom Primary Teacher, said that this year “we chose [to donate to] BroadFutures, an inspiring organization that prepares young people to be ready for the workforce. We are thankful for organizations like BroadFutures and we hope our donation will assist in training neurodivergent students to be successful in the workforce.”
Welcome to Ron Sokolov, our new employer outreach consultant!
We are thrilled to have Ron joining our team to help build out our national pilot program. Ron first became involved with BroadFutures during a pro bono consulting project through Compass Pro Bono. Over a career of more than two decades Ron has worked as a government and corporate executive, consultant, business development leader, founder of a startup and a non-profit board member. His experience includes advising senior government executives and C-suite executives from Fortune 500 companies. Ron is a strong supporter of mission driven organizations and maintains a dual focus on mission success and people, based on the belief that you don't have the best of either unless you have the best of both. Ron lives in Washington DC with his wife and 3 boys. Ron is equally thrilled to be joining our team..." As the parent of a child with disabilities, I believe strongly in working together across sectors to pave pathways for young people who have great professional potential but lack ample opportunity. I am excited to help BroadFutures extend its impact on a national scale."
Employer Spotlight
Girl Scouts Nation's Capital
This month, our employer spotlight is Girl Scouts Nation's Capital. BroadFutures and Girl Scouts have a mutual mission of inclusion which has fostered our partnership since the summer of 2016!! Girls Scouts is committed to ensuring that Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges. When asked about our partnership, Marketing Specialist Elizabeth Watts said that "Our BroadFutures intern brings such a wonderful energy to the office and has taken the initiative to reach out to other departments to understand how the Girl Scouts office all works together."
Vanessa Bliss, one of our amazing program participants this winter, hails from Reston, Virginia. She recently graduated from McDaniel College with a degree in Theatre Arts and a minor in Communications. This winter she is interning at Girl Scouts Nation's Capital.
When asked what she has enjoyed most about her internship so far, Vanessa commented "I have enjoyed getting to develop content creation strategies and work collaboratively on social media posts. I like how I get to use the skills I learned in college as a communication minor in a real world setting."
