November Newsletter (2019)

At this time of Thanksgiving, we would like to thank all of our donors, community partners, employers, staff, and interns who helped further our mission to make the workplace more diverse and inclusive for all young people. We would not be where we are today without your generous support! We are very thankful for your ongoing commitment to our mission and look forward to supporting even more young people in the upcoming year!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Our  Lighting the Way Gala was a huge success!

Thank you to our incredible community for helping to make our recent Gala  a huge success! We are grateful to our sponsors, donors, guests, and of course our amazing alumni interns for a successful and fun evening and for everyone’s support to further our mission!

We heard from our talented alumni and presented our Champion Award to Congressman David Trone and The Wharf (accepted by Elinor Bacon), two of our valuable employer partners. We met our overall fundraising goal and surpassed our Scholarship matching fund goal at the Gala of $25,000, reaching $ 28,342.00!  If you would still like to support our scholarship goal to ensure our programs are available to all qualified young people, you can do so
here or by texting “light” to 202-798-3261.

Thank you to everyone for making the evening an incredible success!!!

Intern Spotlight – Cameron Jackson

Our November Intern Spotlight features Cameron Jackson , an alumni intern from our Summer 2019 Program! Cameron is currently a freshman at the University of the District of Colombia, where he is pursuing a major in psychology.

This past summer, Cameron interned at CBRE, a real estate company at The Wharf, where he was recognized for his thoughtful and hardworking nature. At our recent Gala, Cameron presented our Champion Award to Wharf for their commitment to an inclusive workforce.

Looking back on his experience this summer, Cameron commented, “BroadFutures has taught me to improve my social skills and not let anyone discourage me from my purpose.

We wish you the best of luck with the rest of your time at UDC, Cameron!
